Welcome to the home page of Bengt-Klezmers Orkester!
This is the english summary, where you can get some basic information
about us and listen to some sound clips. Get in contact by e-mail

In the beginning we were nine, and played only klezmer music. As the crowd
was reduced, the repertoire expanded to vocal numbers, own material, and
quite a lot of bulgarian and romanian music. Though, the klezmer tunes
are still in majority!
The inspiration has come from lots of directions, but Klezmer Conservatory
Band and Naftule Brandwein, the old polish/american master must be mentioned.
The influence from the balcan comes from the bulgarian clarinetist Nikola
Jankov and the romanian orchestras Taraf de Haidouks and Fanfare Ciocarlia.
The ingredients from the continent and the new world are spiced up and
cooked by the five swedish chefs of Bengt-Klezmers Orkester:
Andreas Edlund clarinet - Love Nilsson saxophone - Stefan
Wingefors accordeon Jonas Franke-Blom double bass - Thommy
Larsson drums.
A harpsichordist playing the clarinet, a jazz saxophone player and tango
dancer, an classically trained jazz pianist playing the accordeon, a cellist
and composer playing the double base and yodeling, and a jazz drummer!
The result is energetic, intense and concernful music, sometimes laughing,
sometimes crying - Bengt-Klezmers Orkester.
# Mp3
After a few more or less private/internal events, the band had its official
debut at the cultural centre Oceanen in Gothenburg during the Zisel festival
(festival for jewish culture) in october 1998. It was a tremendous success,
much due to the groups concept - an extremely playful, free attitude combined
with highly skilled instrumental performance.
The following titles in mp3 format come from a concert/dance evening and
date from march 2000. Complete, full-length tracks with good sound quality!

-
Ballad+Wie bist die gewesen
vor Prohibition? [4.31 Mb] This is one of the Naftule Brandwein
classics, here coupled with a ballad intro.
-
Der Rebbe [5.54 Mb]
Der Rebbe is a compilation of two melodies, "Der Rebbe
Tanst" and "Bukovina Bulgar". Watch out for the
second section where the accordeon is accompanied by the main
theme. Sax solo in the retake! Arrangement © A. Edlund
-
Der Terk in Amerika [2.45 Mb] Naftules
vigorous and free style of playing inspired us to this somewhat
irregular "swedish polska-ified" version.
-
Ein Glezele Veyn [3.26 Mb] This theme
reminds us a little of a swedish composers work - Midsommarvaka
by Hugo Alfvén. (But his theme is in major!) The end
is very improvised...
-
Hora Lautereasca [3.09 Mb] We got this
romanian hit from our friends in the balkan band "Kopanitsa".
Accordeon feature.
-
Lustige Nakht [4.4 Mb] An arrangement
(© A. Edlund) of Lustige Nakht put together with another
tune (again, I blush. Don't know the name..). Doina-style improvised,
unintended intro.
-
Masjas Vals [1.77 Mb] We played this
traditional waltz in a stageing of Anton Chechov's "Three
Sisters". Therefore we named it Masja's Waltz - Masja is
one of the sisters.
-
Sirba [1.39 Mb] "The fastest band
in the world", Fanfare Ciocarlia, plays this sirba on their
first CD. We just had to to try it. ;-)
