Airlie Beach
Airlie Beach is a small cosy place and lies on the mainland near the Withsundays Islands. The town consist principally of three things, a big marina, a mainstreet and a beach. On the mainstreet you'll find a lot of backpackerplaces, pubs, tavernas and divingshops. Airlie Beach, which is called the gate to Withsundays, is really a great place. From here they arrange a lots of boattrips/divingtrips out to the great barrier reef (which also has several islands) and to the Withsundays complex.

Before sailing out to ocean you really should stay for a day at Arlie Beach and inhale its charm. The town offers cheap living and food. When we were here we rented a 37 feet sailingboat for a week. We loaded divinggears, surfboard, dingi and set course out to the paradise islands. Read more about it here.
