Kangaroo Island

There are many ways to get to Kangaroo Island. A flight from Adelaide takes 30 minutes and costs 90 AUD. The boat that goes from Cape Jervison the mainland, about 110 km south from Adelaide,takes about one hour and costs 32 AUD. The picture below shows the small village Penneshaw,and the lay-by for the ferries.

The abourigenes lived on the island at least 11000 years. They became exstinct in the middle of the 19th century. In 1802 the island was discovered by a captain named Matthew Flinders. The entire crew were almost starved to death and they were saved by the discovering of the island.They eat everything the island had to offer. Kangaroo Island, which has the size of Gotland, os the perfect island to discover by car. The island is full of beautiful natural scenery. On the picture you can see Ravine de casours which lies on the north coast.

In the summer, nov-mars, the weather is dry and it´s about 30 C. Most verdure is experienced in September-October. The temperature is around 15 degrees celsius during the winter and that is also the time you see most animal. The picture is taken from a place called Sandy Creek.

As the name of the island indicate htere are one or two kangarooes lying around in the bushes.For a chance of seeing one you are recommended to talk to the locals where to look. On some places there is strictly djungel. On the map above you can see where the most forrest is located.

There is many nice wandering tracks on the island. One of htem is called Black Swamp.

The living on the island is often a little expensive, but there is a couple of backpacker places which is a little bit cheaper.

Just like the Fraser Island there is often small areas of sand. There is a sandarea on the island that is called the Little Sahara, a miniature dessert.
