Playing the Worms games a lot I've found details that you could change
and things you could add to improve the game. So I mailed Team 17 with
my ideas, and they actually said that they'd seriously consider them.
Here's my own ideas, presented like they was when I mailed them to Team 17. Who knows if they
will show up in a future worms game... First I've got new abilities and then
a couple of new weapons, some even with pictures (forgive the ugly ones and the ones with grey worms, I drawed 'em in
paintbrush :). Well, enjoy!
[SLTAIW] after a ability or weapon's name, is short for "Something Like This Appears In Worms: Armageddon".
Ideas for new Abilities
Running ability [SLTAIW]
This is actually not a so very needed addition but I think it would speed up
especially Internet games, the ability to run. When you're moving your worm
over a large area it sometimes feels a bit slow, so I have come up with an
run ability. When pressing the arrow keys your
worm moves like usual but when your holding down the shift key your worm
simply moves faster, runs. This will be best if it doesn't affect jumping
length.
Ability to select between fire boobytraps and nonfire ones
Sometimes it feels like just the explosion boobytrapped crate is enough -
that you rather not would like the fire that comes along. An option like
this in the settings menu would be very nice.
Ability to change percent of crates boobytrapped
I really think there sometimes is too many crates which explode in my hands.
An option to change the percent in the settings menu would be great.
Ability to see how many worms teams in play have left
Four worms which have one health unit left is always better than one who
have four. It's because of this I want to be able to see how many worms a
team has left (yes, you can look around and count it, but that takes time).
Own Levels like in Worms Reinforcements [SLTAIW]
The ability to make own levels in worms reinforcements with own drawings was great,
a such ability for worms 2 would be even greater!
Ability too see nationality in game
The idea of seeing nationalities in worms 2 was great but you sometimes
forget peoples nationalities in game. Not so important, but useful with
country flags in the game.
Icons instead or with nationality flags [SLTAIW]
Name is one thing but you want something more to personalisize you. An
ability to have your own alredy made icon instead of your flag or with
it would be cool. Custom made icons for eg a clan would not be bad either.
Ability to see players local time
Sometimes you talk to people which doesn't seem to come from the land
their flag shows, it would be nice with an ability to check their time
like you can in other games.
Team/Clan games [SLTAIW]
There has been many clans coming up in the Worms2 world but it's not a
real good game for clans, it could be improved in that matter. One
thing would be that two or three teams could compete against each
others so that each side consisted of two or three teams, which when
they had killed all the enemy teams they would not have to continue,
they would win the match. Or you could set so that different players
controlled different worms, or a number of, say 2, worms in a team,
which would actually be that clan. Abilities like this exist in other
games, to ally with other teams, other players.
Skins
Again it's about clans. In Quake clans and players have as you may know
different looks, skins. The great lot of animations in Worms 2 makes it
hard but just a skin that is premade or custom made when the worm is standing put, would
be great. Actually I got this idea from the Allotment site where the guys
who do that page has their own worm looks.
Ranking system [SLTAIW]
Games like Netstorm or Starcraft have their own ranking system
implented in the game and a such in worms would really give new life to
the game. Ofcourse it's always the allotment league, but that's only
cheaters and players who quit when they loose. But a system like
allotment's, but inside the game would be great.
Ability to see whether a player quitted or really had network
problems during a network/Internet game
This is one of the big problems with the allotment, when a player
looses he just says that "it was network problems" when he actually
lost. PLEASE can't you make it so that IF you SURRENDER a message
shows: PLAYER SURRENDERED, and if he *really* had network problems a
such messge appears.
Fog of War
Ever played a game called Warcraft? In that game the gamefield is all
black when you start a game and the field gets revealed around your
worms (in the next worms game), and as you move them you see more
and more of it. This as an option would be cool.
Exchange Weapons and health [SLTAIW]
In some games you can exchange money and so to your allies. An
ability like this would be nice between clanallies and between worms
in your own team (then it's only health).
Better palette/ability to take screenshots
I experence it hard to take screenshots in Worms 2 due to the bad palette.
A button for screenshot or a better palette is welcomed.
Ability to record Nice moves
Sometimes you really make a cool shot with a weapon and you feel that you
would like to record that and be able to watch it later. Make a button for
this or something.
Ability to customize keys
You can change keys and actions in other games and it would be very helpful
if you could do it too in worms. For example set "b" to bazooka or
something.
Ok, I know. Some of you may alredy have these ideas, or very close to them.
I don't say that all these are MY ideas, I know a lot of people alredy have the idea of the flamethrower, to mention one. What
really matters is who got the idea FIRST. Just kidding :)
The Shark
A shark comes moving down the water and a classic music score plays...poor
worms who are standing close to the water get bited/knocked or even eaten up.
Bowling Ball
the bowlerworm throws the ball which rolls through worms and solid ground. Strike!
Invisible mine
The worm drops it and it becomes invisible! Sorry for those sad worms who didn't
notice where it was layed...
Cannon
A weapon which recreates the old pirate feeling. Aim like any other weapon
and then shoot away a cannon ball at a constant rate of power, like the mortar.
Either the ball will explode on hit or roll like the bowling ball.
Artillery distress call
Point a target and the artillery pieces will begin shooting. Not too accurate though.
A-Bomb [SLTAIW]
Mark the target like an airstrike and the A-bomb is dropped there. BOOM. Big
Explosion with strong throw-worm-away-power and each turn after the explosion,
worms will suffer low damage.
Call for backup
This is a crate thing which actually gives the team a new, full health worm,
parachuting down.
Laser-sight snipergun [SLTAIW]
A laser-sighted sniper gun with only one weak shot, but good aim!
One barelled shotgun
Only one shot which fires many small pellets which have a high spread rate, Deadly nearby!
Artillery Cannon
A weapon like this is seen in many worms cutscenes of worms 2 and it would
be cool if there was one like it in the game. I haven't got any good idea
how it's gonna work but in some cool way, maybe like the mortar or
something.
FlameThrower [SLTAIW]
Remember the FMV in the original worms which had a flamethrower in it? I've
always been thinking of such a weapon and I've come up with an idea for one:
The weapon is just like Uzi or something, you can change the direction and
then press space to make it shoot Molotov-coctail-like fire.
Placeable Oilcan
This weapon is simply like mines but instead of putting out mines you put
out oildrums like the ones in Worms 2. You can choose when having this weapon active,
either to have a fuse, a worm-detector like a mine or just an ordinary oildrum, when you
put it out.
