This is my 1970 Corvette Convertible.
It's got a 350 cuin (5.7l) V8 which I have equipped with fuel
injection.
I bought the car in Enköping in 1988 and I joined Club Corvette Sweden
imediately.
When I've had the car for some years and been able to test the car both on the strip and on the track I thought it would be more fun with more power. Despite the fact that it's suppose to be 350 hp in the L46 it took me 14.7 seconds to do the dragstrip. On the race track it was OK (I thought back then) but the brakes were fading after a few laps. This is becaus it's a really heavy car. It weights more than 1.6 tons!! All this and the fact that it started puffing blue smoke when I started the engine made me take the desicion to get a healthier engine in all aspects. I didn't want to modify the original engine because of the matching numbers so I opted to go for a new complete engine.
At this time I used to shop at a Speed Shop on Linköping called American Racing. Once I was there they had an engine in the window which had been a project engine in a magazine called Wheels. It wasn't that much stronger than the one I had, but it was a good engine to start from. It was braking 363 hp and with other cylinde heads the power could easily raise to +430hp so I bought it.
At the annual Club Corvette Sweden championship (1992) with the new engine the 1/4 mile time wasn't that much better than last year. The handling and the brakes weren't that good either. To improve the handling I fitted a swaybar on the rear suspension but that only made the car oversteer a lot so I took it off again. I just couldn't have it like this so I had to improve most of the things on the car.
American Racing got me two new cylinder heads. Had been thinking of a fuel injection system for a long time som i got a Electromotive TEC II system from a company calledd Dalhems which is a combined fuel injection and ignition controller. I got a used front suspension package with transversal composite spring. I bought a composite spring for the rear suspension as well. Both springs are fully adjustable. Got Camber adjustment bars with rose joints and four new adjustable Koni's too. Later I got 16" rims and Goodyear Eagle tyres. Just wait till the ice and snow thaws......
Springtime 1995 and the car was started the first time with everything in place. It took me many months before I found the correct settings on fuel and sparkadvance. Almost at once I felt that the car was noticable quicker and it had more torque. The next challange was to set the springs and the shocks. I found a setting that felt ok on streets. Now I had to prove that the car was quick on the strip and on the track as well, and it was to happen at the club championship.
This time my 1/4 mile time was down to 13,6 s which is ok. It didn't run perfectly but I was happy with that. On the race track it did well too. I ended up fourth in the modified class! There are lots of adjustments to check and softer tires would help. There's one year untill the next race, and it will be better....or.....

The winter passed and I stiffened the front suspension with a bar between the upper A-arms monting points. I made a softer setup of the springs and shocks.
In the spring I had a run at a local dragracing event and i managed 13,3 s after some runs and some small adjustments.
After a few weeks I had a terrible backfire due to the rev limiter and I blew the old exhaust system in pieces. I had one stainless steel system made at Ferrita where they built one on the car. It didn't change the performance of the car a lot but the sound is just incredible.
This years club championship was one with mixed feelings. I didn't make any improvement on the strip but on the track I did well. Unfortunately the ZR1's drove in modified and they are pretty fast already from the factory. I managed to keep a few cars behind mee including some ZR1's. I'm sure I will do beet next year.........
This year I moved to a bigger garage and I decided to start a new project. I decided to build a GT40 replica, read more about this here here. Of course I continued to use the Corvette but I didn't do well at the championship. For example in 1999 a sensor failed on my second lap on the track and I coldn't drive another lap.
Now in 2001 and the Ford is almost finished the Corvette will be turned into its original shape again.
I've realised the limits of the C3 as a racing car.
I've saved all parts I removed. Now I've stripped it completely and it will be assembled again in due time.
I hope to have it ready in the summer of 2002.
Some Corvette enthusiasts have started a local Corvette Club where I've become a member. It's named Corvette Aros of Sweden. Take a look, you won't be dissapointed.
