Endurance racing

I am doing some endurance recing as well. Together with some friends we use to participate in two nine hours events every year. The races are almost always at a track called Gälleråsen. The team which has done most laps after nine hours wins and gets Trophy. We have had mixed results but we have never won. Most of the times we finish which is a kind of achievement. We started out with an old BMW 320i which we had to retire. We then started racing VW Golf GTI and we are now on our second.
As you may have figured out there are no Le Mans cars in our events, but we probably have more fun here than the guys racing at the Le Mans. If you should get the opportunity to try endurance racing I would recommend you to go for it.
On the pictures below you can see which level of cars we race. The BMW suited the regulations perfectly because you man only use cars with engines up to 2.0 litres. Previously we even had "Le Mans start" the kind of starting proceedure where you line up the cars on one side of the track and the drivers on the opposite side and when the start signal goes the drivers run across the track, jumps into the car, straps themselves up and away they go. The organiser decided to abandon that proceedure before an accident would happen.

Season 2002

Here are some pictures from the 2002 season.
The spring race: 4+4 hours at Gelleråsen. It didn't start very well. On the warm-up lap we had a small fire in the electrical wiring. We could fix it but we lost six laps. At least we could finish the race and as the car was still in good shape we could enter the next four hour race without having having to repair inbetween the races.
After an hours rest the next race started and we could almost keep up with the best. All good things will come to an end. A broken spline in an upright put an end to our challenge. As we didn't have a spare upright we had to retire.
The autumn race: 9 hours at Gelleråsen. We had a flying start and were up there with the leaders. After the first tank stop we started loosing about a lap per hour. We know that it takes too long to fill up the tank so we loose valuable time refuelling. That was not our biggest problem this day. The clutch gave up on us after six hours. We got another DNF. We are satisfied with the competetivenes of the team. The four drivers are even but we have to improve the refuelling bit.

Transformation from car-o car to endurance racer. We don't use those wheels in car-o. Insufficient grip in mud and sand.

*The cars are ready for start. We are in the second row! Not bad, eh!* *Changing drivers.* *The expired clutch. Is the warranty still valid?*
