It just happened
I painted some dogs just for fun at the early 90:s and friends working
for SKK saw it and wanted me to paint their dogs. And by the time
the breeder of my Kerry Blue became 40 I painted my dog S:t Monica
for her in this splashed and dripping style. She loved it and I
found that I was comfortable with this mix of being careless with
the colours and yet accurate and with high detail.
I usually work
in water techniques, aquarell, gouache, acryl or mixed media. It´s
hard to say what happens with a picture, because I start (mostly)
with the splashed background and then let the motive emerge from
the dots and running water. Most paintings shown on the internet
are done in this manner which gives a feeling of movement, character,
a sense of the animal, it´s fur, mass and strength. I´m
trying to avoid the sentimental side of an animal, which I belive
is a human aspect of animal life. on other pages contained herein
you WILL see other techniques and of course more animals.
Often I hear, Oh it´s exactly him or her, I can see it in
the eyes. I don´t fully agree with this, because the eye,
as well as for cats, horses and of course people is basically three
circles. To me is nostrils, nose or muzzle, wrinkles, dots, lack
of pigment, lips and all the other details that give the specific
animal it´s own character more important. The eye is the very
last detail, and of course the one that finally brings life to the
dog and makes him want to jump down from the wall.
