Bridgewater started her career as lead vocalist for four years with the Thad Jones and Mel
Lewis bigband. This engagement made it possible for her to perform at a young age with
some of the jazz giants such as Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, Max Roach
and Roland Kirk. In 1974 she jumped at a chance to sing at broadway. This opened new
horizones for her singing and acting in shows like "The Wiz",
"Sophisticated Ladies", "Lady Day", "Carmen Jazz" and many
more. She won numerous awards for her performances. She returned to singing jazz when
settling in Paris. Her albums "Love and Peace, A Tribute to Horace Silver" and
"Dear Ella" have earned her a huge audience worldwide and the latter also 2
Grammy Awards. |
