BIOGRAPHY Katrine Madsen was born March 7 th 1972 in Aarhus, Denmark In her early years she lived many different places in Denmark. Twice the family (her parents, a brother and a sister) moved to Greenland where her parents worked as teachers. Katrine in Greenland - 4 years old. At the age of 15 Katrine moved to Brasil for one year as an exchange student in Belo Horizonte. Staying with a Brasilian family she quickly adapted the language, and at the same time she was introduced to the Brasilian music. After a few years working and living in Aarhus, she was admitted to the Royal Academy of Music in 1992. After 5 years of studying Katrine got her Diploma degree. In 1994 she started the group "Katrine Madsen Swing Quintet", together with musicians from Aarhus. They toured a lot in Jutland, and in 1996 they invited Henning Schädler (who owns the record label "Music Mecca") to a concert in Herning, hoping that he would make a CD with the group. In June 1996 the Katrine Madsen CD "I´m Old Fashioned" was released by Music Mecca Records. In the fall of 1996 Katrine moved to Copenhagen, and there she formed a new group who recorded a new CD "Dream Dancing", which was highly praised by critics in Denmark as well as Sweden. While touring with her group Katrine also worked as a vocal teacher at the Academy of Music on the island of Funen, and as a composer. In 1998 the Danish Nationanal Television broadcasted a live session with Ed Thigpen Rythm Features featuring Katrine, and in connection with that they went in the studio to record her third album "You Are So Beautiful", which was released in February 1999.
