From the Ivory Coast to Spain and from Morocco to France,
Laika's hybrid origins took her one day to Jazz,
the most hybrid of musics. Claude Bolling
did well in choosing this petite woman to be the voice of
his great orchestra (with the male singer Jeffery Smith),
during more than six years. It was quite something to hear
her warm and precise voice, from murmur to brilliance,
dominate the brass of the big band. One also has got to hear her sing with her Quintet to appreciate all the subtleties of her delivery in a repertoire that is anything but easy. You have the chance to do so today.
