Accolade released this flight adventure set in World War II. You have some missions to complete, including gunning down airplanes and bombing trains. This is not a traditional flight simulator, for example you don't have to take care of pesky details like taking off and landing. This makes it more of a multi-part arcade like game.
Archon
Packed size: 23k
Original size: 46k
Format: P00
Doc: C64
Classic chess-like game from Freefall. You can play Light or Dark, and the object is to either wipe out your opponent or take possession of five magic squares on the board. When two pieces "meet" on the same square, a fight is initiated in which only one piece comes out alive. Pieces have different characteristics, which makes for a variety of combinations in fights.
Archon II - Adept
Packed size: 27k
Original size: 39k
Format: P00
Doc: C64
The follow-up to Archon is just as good as the first game, and follows the original closely. Order and Chaos are fighting it out this time, in the four elements.
Armageddon man
Packed size: 35k
Original size: 36k
Format: P00
Doc: C64
In this original strategy game, you play the part as the Armageddon Man. Your job: to keep world peace and stop the great nations from obliterating each other with nukes. The game has a very nice background soundtrack, and I for one really enjoy being able to divide world resources fairly.
Banana Drama
Packed size: 19k
Original size: 19k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Very simple text-based strategy game in which you play the new ruler of a young South- or Middle American country. Get as much power as possible by trying to please different groups. Sounds easy? Well, try making the armed forces and the subversives happy at the same time...
Barbarian
Packed size: 36k
Original size: 42k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Two-player sword-fighting at its best. This classic from Palace was ported to a number of different formats. I remember the ad for this one got quite a lot of attention - it featured a busty Maria Whittaker alongside some Conan-like dude.
Battleships
Packed size: 20k
Original size: 47k
Format: P00
Doc: No
A board game converted to compute format may not thrill everyone, but anyone who has ever played Battleships and enjoyed it, is sure to like this conversion. The user interface works well, and there are even action scenes in which you see armada bombardment.
Boulder dash
Packed size: 10k
Original size: 16k
Format: P00
Doc: No
In this little classic, you guide your little guy around caves to collect diamonds. Hazards include falling boulders and all manner of creatures. This is one of the most popular games for the C64, and the game is truly addictive in ways which are hard for me to describe. There are plenty of levels just in this game, but there are also a number of follow-ups out there, along with a construction kit.
Bozo's night out
Packed size: 21k
Original size: 47k
Format: P00
Doc: No
The bozo in this game goes out every night to have some beer, and you must guide him home safely to bed. Every night he drinks more than the night before, and he gets harder and harder to handle. Just about everything on screen is a hazard, so you have to take care.
Break dance
Packed size: 7k
Original size: 17k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Simple game from Epyx. You try to copy the moves of the other character - there are only four to choose from so it isn't so hard. In spite of its simplicity, it's still an enjoying game.
Chinese juggler
Packed size: 10k
Original size: 17k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Here's a pretty original concept - juggle plates on pins. It's quite a challenge to move around and spin all those plates, so they don't lose speed and crack on the floor.
Destroyer
Packed size: 84k
Original size: 171k
Format: D64
Multiload
Doc: C64
Strategy/war/action from Epyx. Take command of a destroyer and complete various missions, like sub hunting and taking out gun emplacements. The game has one real drawback, and that is it multi-loads in-game screens. Thus it takes quite a while to switch from bridge to guns, etc, if your emulator does not provide fast-loading.
The Flintstones
Packed size: 31k
Original size: 32k
Format: P00
Doc: No
In this comic conversion you play Fred. I'm not sure what you're supposed to do exactly, but I do remember something about building a house. The graphics follow the cartoon pretty well, but the gameplay is sometimes annoying. The turtle on the picture will follow you around, and hurt you enough to kill you.
The Fourth Protocol
Packed size: 77k
Original size: 171k
Format: D64
Multiload
Doc: No
Icon-driven investigation game based on the novel by Frederick Forsyth. Play the head of a top-secret British anti-spy agency. Follow people around and do all sorts of investigative stuff. Superb game - in fact I think it is my favorite for the C64. Check out the feature.
Frankie goes to Hollywood
Packed size: 42k
Original size: 58k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Now here's a pretty strange game. The name is from the pop/rock group of the 80's, who had hits like "Relax" and "The power of love". However, I've found no references whatsoever to the group in this game.
Instead it's sort of an investigation adventure, where you have to find the murderer. Another goal is to become a "real person" (I'm not sure what it is you actually are).
Ghettoblaster
Packed size: 29k
Original size: 49k
Format: P00
Doc: C64
This is one of the coolest games ever. You control a rastafari rock'n'roll DJ-dude who carries around his blaster wherever he goes. You collect tapes, make people dance and deliver the tape at the record company. In the meanwhile you have to watch out for tone-deaf people, police and psycho murderers.
Gunship
Packed size: 146k
Original size: 341k
Format: D64(2)
Multiload
Doc: C64
A heavy-weight helicopter simulator from Microprose. I had the original copy of this one on tape (fear those loading times!) - and I remember a keyboard overlay map came with it. There are lots of controls to master, but once you do it, this game is truly rewarding. You fly your gunship through several missions of varying difficulty, and get rewarded by promotions and/or medals. I used to crash-land so much, I got several purple hearts.
Hovver bovver
Packed size: 32k
Original size: 53k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Jeff Minter is a truly insane guy - some of his other titles include AMC and Matrix. Here's another weird game, in which you play a lawn-mowing psycho who steals (or borrows) his neighbors' mowers to cut lawns - any lawn will do, it seems. Of course, his neighbors are less than happy about this...

It's only rock'n'roll

Packed size: 22k
Original size: 39k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Here is a basic text-based strategy game where you try to make it to the stars with your rock band. Go on tour, write songs, fire your manager - all the ingredients of being a rock star is here. And you can (like the picture shows), see highlights from your performances.
Lemonade stand
Packed size: 9k
Original size: 9k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Here's something as rare as a text-based educational game from Commodore. Your summer job is selling lemonade. Try to set an optimal price for a glass depending on temperature and humidity and there you go. Why I like this I can't say. But I do.
Mercenary and Mercenary 2nd city
Packed size: 74k
Original size: 171k
Format: D64
Doc: Atari
Oops - you crash-landed on planet Targ, your ship destroyed in the crash. Now you must make enough to buy you a new ship and get away from the planet.
The game is a nice mix of "flight-sim" and adventure. To progress, and make money, you have to accomplish different missions for the two rivalling/warring sides on the planet.
Mugsy's revenge
Packed size: 49k
Original size: 50k
Format: P00
Doc: No
I just love games where you get to play the criminal. Here your part is that of a booze-smuggler during the prohibition in the USA. You must take care of making money, as well as keeping an eye on the competition and the police. The game is pretty straight-forward and simple, but a great soundtrack and nice background graphics make it a few notches better than it really is.
Orc attack
Packed size: 10k
Original size: 16k
Format: P00
Doc: No
The orcs are storming the castle! You must fight them with rocks, sword and fire, from the battlements. Truly basic action, but very enjoyable. I especially like it when you get to throw the chalice of fire and burn those nasty orcs - heheheh...
R.M.S. Titanic
Packed size: 39k
Original size: 171k
Format: D64
Doc: No
In this game you lead an expedition to salvage the Titanic (I think). Most of the playing consists of exploring the wreckage, and finding ways to open blocked exits, but there is also press and sponsors to take care of to keep the project running. Very enjoyable.
Skool daze
Packed size: 30k
Original size: 44k
Format: P00
Doc: C64
Get back to school and enjoy things like geography classes, sling shooting and writing on blackboards. You control Eric, who has some higher objective other than causing mischief, but I'm not really sure what it is. The game is still pretty fun.
Split personalities
Packed size: 27k
Original size: 27k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Here's a truly addictive puzzler. You have to put together famous politicians of the 80's, like Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan (picture). There's a time limit, so you can't dawdle.
Spy vs Spy trilogy
Packed size: 90k
Original size: 171k
Format: D64
Doc: C64
Here's the complete trilogy based on the comic in MAD magazine. The games are pretty much the same, where the rivals X and Y try to achieve the same goal, while trying to sabotage the other playser as bad as possible. It's a great feeling when a booby-trap springs on your opponent. The picture is from the second game in the series, The Island Caper. The D64 contains all three games.
Theatre Europe
Packed size: 21k
Original size: 37k
Format: P00
Doc: No
War strategy again based on the cold war. NATO and the Warzaw pact are making Europe a battlefield once again. The game features action scenes from the battles, as well as mass destruction weapons like nukes and nerve gas.
They stole a million
Packed size: 51k
Original size: 171k
Format: D64
Multiload
Doc: No
This is one of my all-time favorite computer games. You must lead a band of criminals in a series of burglaries to try to make a million. Resources are scarce in the beginning, but grow as you progress, so you can hit more valuable and well-guarded targets.
Trap door
Packed size: 43k
Original size: 43k
Format: P00
Doc: No
In this game you take the role of Berk, the large blue blob you can see in the picture. Berk must satisfy his master by fixing up a variety of disgusting dishes. Many ingredients come from beneath the trap door, where all sorts of hideousness resides.
Trashman
Packed size: 17k
Original size: 40k
Format: P00
Doc: No
Empty trash - sounds like fun? The creators of this game obviously thought so, and they were right! You have to empty the bins on different streets on a pretty tight time-limit, as well as perform various tasks for the residents of the houses. Beware of traffic too, it's a killer.
