Majorca - the
largest of the Baleric Islands Majorca, its name coming from "MAJOR", is the largest of the Balearic Islands. This "Mediterranean Pearl", in spite of its apparent common features with the other islands in the archipelago, keeps, nonetheless, a special image thanks to its own peculiarities. The busiest area is, of course, that of the seashore (a coast of 460 Kms.) and more than half of its inhabitants (600 000) are centred in the capital, Palma. But, fortunately, the changes propelled by the growing tourist trade, the main source of income for majorcans, have not put an end two traditional virtues of the island: its quietness and the kindness of its people that will be immediately noticed by any visitor. |

Valldemosa History is carefully kept at Majorca. Frederic Chopin lived there
during the winter of 1838--1839, in one of the monk cells, together with George
Sand, in Valldemosa. The quietness of the Carthusian atmosphere allowed the
musician to compose most of his Preludes. |

Inca, Alcudia, Pollenca and Formentor Another nice route goes from Palma to Inca, Alcudia, Pollenca and Formentor. In Inca, it is essential to visit the market places where you can find all kinds of local products, in addition to the well known shoes and leather articles. The National Park of L`Albufera, a rich reservation for different species of flora and fauna, is located just before coming to Alcudia. This last town keeps remains from most of the ancient cultures that have settled on the island. In front of the seaport in Pollenca, another archeological site, you will find Formentor, one of the natural marvels of Majorca and a wonderful view. |
