Where is Umeå? -
Umeå is in northern Sweden, at the east
coast - a universitycity. The population in november 01, 2006 - 111 273 people .
The medianage is 34 year. For the world around Umeå is most known for its University (25
000 students) and the city of birches with the ishockeyteam "Björklöven" (in
eng. Birchleafs) and of course every year arrange the worlds biggest rounders cup (in
swedish its called brännbollscup) with about 11 000 players.
Northern Sweden have all seasons; summer, autumn, winter and finally spring. Our winter
(november - april) is too long with dark nights and much snow. Of course wintertime also
has it's own charm. Our spring is beautiful and the summer is wonderful.:-)
Summer days are long and warm and light in north. We have
midnight sun shining until mid-June and our wonderful Midsummer celebrations occur
on the Friday and the forthcoming weekend closest to June 24, the "official"
Midsummer's Day. Towards the end of July, the sky begins to darken
again and autumn is a time to visit the woods or the parks and experience the
changing of the leaves.
