To check and correct the programs in the computer. |
| Diplomatic Immunity |
One of many privileges granted to diplomats, under which the laws of the host country
do not apply to them. This is frequently taken advantage of by the secret service. |
| Dive |
To collect and exchange information by entering the electronic brain. |
| Electronic Brain
|
A widely-used term generally referring to a brain that has been rebuilt for computers, AI or cyborgs.

| Electronic Brain Ethics Violation |
In a world where even the human brain is a part of a network, it is a crime to violate individual identities. |
| Ghost
|
The part of the human body containing human identity. This term was created to avoid
confusion about the definition of a man and the soul in the cybernetic age.
|
| Ghost Hack |
To infiltrate the ghost and control the character of a person. Considered one of the most serious crimes but hard to prove.
|
| Ghost Line
|
A barrier surrounding the ghost inside the electronic brain of a cyborg,
in other words the borderline or the area considered the ghost. |
| HA-3 |
A computer virus used to extract and manipulate information from electronic brains. Old-fashioned by the year 2029.
|
| Hacker
|
A general term for computer criminals who enter electronic brains and steal
and change information or plant viruses in the data. |
| Megatech Body Co.
|
A government contracted maker of artificial bodies. The artificial bodies
made here are considered top-secret. Section 9 is in charge of cases related to Megatech Body.

| MFA
|
Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Extremely powerful government ministry.
|
| MFA Treaty Council
|
Also known as Public Security Section 6, this is the secret service section
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of council members.
|
| ODA
|
Official Development Assistance. Used to help countries in need but is often used for political gain.
|
| Official Programmer
|
Computer programmers that have been officially approved by the government.
As they deal with highly confidential material, they must watch their every word or move they take.
|
| Pass-through
|
Same as dive. To enter into the electronic brain and retrieve or exchange information, or pass through the barrier.
|
| Pressure Meter
|
Measures the weight of objects by monitoring pressure on the ground or walls.
Often used on conjunction with thermo-optical camouflage.

| Protective Barrier
|
This barrier prevents attack from hackers on the outside.
|
| Public Security Section 6
|
Another name for the Treaty Council. In charge of investigating and gathering
information on various diplomatic issues, international crime and terrorism.
Is also in charge of keeping Project 2501 confidential.

|
Otherwise known as the Shell Squad, a special task force under the Prime Minister.
Mainly in charge of confidential investigations into the electronic brain network
and terrorist activities and so on. Department chief Aramaki is in charge.

|
An artificial body made using the latest technology. Top-secret.
|
| Shell Squad
|
Is also called Public Security Section 9 and is directly affiliated to the Prime Minister.
|
| State Secret Act
|
This widely-applied law prohibits the leaking of top secret information to third parties.
Officially called the National Secret Protection Act.
|
| The Republic of Gabel
|
After a period of civil war the former military government was overthrown and
a new democratic government created. Former leader Colonel Malez fled to the unidentified
Asian nation where Ghost In The Shell is set.

| Treaty Council Member
|
Solves diplomatic problems and gathers information needed to crack international crimes.
Part of Public Security Section 6 affiliated to the Foreign Ministry.

| Two Man Cell
|
A tactic used by special forces when they work in pairs and cove each other.
|
| Weapons Export Restriction Act
|
A law that prohibits the export of weapons and related items. However, this law has proved very flexible.
|
