Ghost In The Shell's Japanese title is Kokakukidotai. The anime is based on the manga, with the same name, by Masamune Shirow and it is directed by Mamoru Oshii. The anime cost 6 million US dollars to produce and had a simultaneous theathrical premiere in Japan, US and Europe winter 1995. Ghost In The Shell is a one its kind. Combining traditional cel animation and the lastest computer graphics Ghost In The Shell breaks the boundaries of mainstream animation. Ghost In The Shell includes state of the art visual effects and it's so well done it is sometimes forgotten it's in fact an animated movie. Ghost In The Shell is really realisticly animated. Every single detail is thought through carefully. Taking for example there is a scene where this tank shoots at concrete pillars, as known concrete buildings and pillars have an iron skeleton to support the concrete. So when the tank shoots at the cement pillars; when the bullets hit the iron they give these sparks and when the bullets hit the concrete they behaive like real bulltes hitting concrete. So it's amazingly realistic. Of course, Motoko do unusually high jumps and such. But then we have to remember that she is a cyborg, and cyborgs can do what humans cannot.
