| The white man took more and more of the Indians land, and about 100 years ago they had taken almost all of the North America. Many Indians had been killed in the battles against the whites, and those who were left had been put in special areas called "Reservations". There the Indians were surpose to be left alone and to live in peace. As a compesation for the hunting grounds they had to leave behind, they were surpose to get money and merchandise. But the merchandise they had been promised seldom or never came. And the Indians rised in rebellion, and since they were disappointed and hungry they rebellion often became very bloody. Many settlers were killed, houses were burned down, fields were destroyed. But the rebellions seldom last for long. The Indians were defeated and those who hadn´t been put in prison were forced back to their reservations. The Indians on the prairie were the last ones that lived a peaceful life, but soon they also got forced to sell their hunting grounds to the white man. |
