Mariani - Perpetuum Mobile

The legendary Mariani Perpetuum Mobile psych LP was only released as a promo on the Sonobeat label. Very rare and in great demand. Not a record that you find every day.
This is one of the most searched psych lp´s and was only made as a very limited (100) promo issue that went nowhere at the time and there are not many copies known today. This Mariani album comes in either a plain white cover with MARIANI written at the upper right or a cover with stamped info MARIANI at upper left, PERPETUUM MOBILE at upper right, SONOBEAT STEREO at lower right and ADVANCE COPY with a handwritten number at lower left. That's all except that most of these were autographed by the recording members.

Labels have the numbers HEC 411 / HEC 412.
Mariani label
As you can see there are some vocalists on this legendary psych album, which  not has been known by many record collectors before. The titles are also on the promo only stage and not the same as on the different reissues that exist.

This album was recorded outdoors in the free! The band set up their instruments out on a field and made their recordings.

Beside its rarity, it is a great psych LP with the young guitarist   Eric Johnson. What a guitarist and he was only 15 or 16 when recording  these Mariani tracks. It’s Eric Johnson that is best remembered today  as a musician but the group have the name after drummer Vince  Mariani . Jay Podolnick sang on one track. He was the regular singer  in this band. Other vocalists for the recording were   Bill Wilson who also did some song writing and   Darrell Peal . Involved in the song writing was also a   Nelson , whoever he was.

Mariani also made two singles on the Sonobeat label:
Pulsar / Boots – Sonobeat R-S 116 (1969 - drum solo by Vince Mariani)
Re-Birth Day / Memories Lost And Found – Sonobeat 118 (1970)

There exist a very very rare gig poster for the UK band Deep Purple with  "Special Guests: MARIANI". I would love to get a copy of this. Or a picture  of it that could be shown here.

Eric Johnson later played in the jazz/fusion band Electromagnets and they made an LP in 1975 on the EGM label. There are two presses of this LP with different covers. Eric is still playing the guitar and recording.

Jay Podolnick went into producing albums with Eric Johnson and other artists. Later he dropped his name Podolnick and took his middle name Aaron instead and became a recording musician himself under the name Jay Aaron. In 1990 he released his first solo album “Jay Aaron Inside Out”. Jay has his own studio and label “Villa Muse”.
